The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) has organized a workshop in Dubai titled "Developing Frameworks Related to the Governance of Health Research Ethics in the UAE."
The event brought together experts and specialists from strategic health sector partners, academic institutions, and the private sector. They reviewed and discussed ways to harmonize the regulatory frameworks developed by the National Center for Health Research in collaboration with experts from Monash University, Australia, and in coordination with stakeholders.
The frameworks discussed were designed to bolster the health research ecosystem in the UAE, aiming to sustain excellence and global leadership in healthcare research and innovation. The workshop also aimed to foster meaningful engagement among experts and stakeholders, facilitating robust partnerships and collaborations across various sectors.
During the gathering, participants shared their insights and proposed strategies to unify health research regulations in the UAE. This would support the development of a research-driven health ecosystem that aligns with the UAE's strategic goals and enhances the quality of life by advancing national research and innovation benchmarks.
In the first part, the workshop covered a set of frameworks developed by the National Center for Health Research in partnership with Monash University, Australia. These frameworks align with international criteria and best practices, including health research ethics, guidelines for health research ethics committees, mechanisms for accrediting these committees, and the code for responsible conduct in health research to maintain professional standards.
The second part of the workshop discussed the UAE health research funding framework, which standardizes guidelines and procedures related to health research funding programs based on best practices, ensuring consistency and integrity in allocating and using research funds.
